What to Expect While Students Are in Programming
Our dedicated team ensures you are well-informed throughout a student's time enrolled in Compass programming, maintaining consistent communication from admission to discharge. Our purpose-built group rooms are thoughtfully designed to replicate a classroom setting, facilitating a smoother transition back to school. You can also expect:
- Masters-Level Support: Our team boasts masters-level educators who customize learning experiences, ensuring consistent academic growth.
- Study Sessions: Daily sessions foster strong study habits, time management, and self-reliance, enhancing academic prowess.
- Return to School Plan: We schedule a collaborative meeting with school and Compass staff, families, and sometimes students, ensuring a smooth reintegration into school life.
- Family Therapy: Acknowledging family's role in a student's journey, we offer sessions to bolster communication and mutual support.
- Progress Tracking: Receive regular insights into your student's growth, aiding joint efforts to optimize their social/emotional and academic learning.
- Comprehensive Approach: Beyond academics, we prioritize emotional intelligence, resilience, and overall mental well-being through various evidence-based therapeutic modalities and psychiatric care.
- Ongoing School Support: Our engagement with partner schools ensures lasting positive change, benefiting both individual students and broader school systems.
When to Refer Checklist
- Frequent or chronic absence or tardiness from school or classes, or seeking out increasing supports from school clinicians
- Students reporting self-harm actions or urges
- Students reporting suicidal ideation or when there are concerns about safety
- Students who were recently psychiatrically hospitalized
- Students with co-occurring disorders or symptoms that would benefit from an all-encompassing, multidisciplinary approach
- Students who need more support than what is traditionally offered in outpatient therapy, such as requiring multiple treatment modalities (psychiatry, group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy) in one program
- Students who are not functioning in their daily lives at home, work, or school
- Students in need of expedited medication changes within the context of comprehensive treatment
- Virtual: Students who lack access to high quality, evidence-based comprehensive Behavioral health care in their communities

On February 15, 2023, The Family Action Network (FAN) presented the event, "Understanding and Treating School Anxiety and Refusal," a conversation with Leslie Brankin, Psy.D., and Anna Finis, Psy.D., moderated by Toni Boos, Psy.D. This presentation provided an overview of school anxiety and refusal to help families understand its various presentations, potential causes and functions of refusal behavior, and strategies for supporting youth and young adults in getting to school more consistently.

About Compass Health Center
Compass Health Center recognizes that accessing immediate, high-quality, specialized mental health care can be a significant challenge for many. Compass strives to set the standard of excellence for Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs by providing immediate access to comprehensive, compassionate, evidence-based behavioral health treatment for individuals and their families.
In 2011, Compass Health Center opened its doors to serve children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Since then, Compass has served many thousands of patients each year, expanding to new regions, opening new specialty care offerings, and steadily expanding the variety of patients treated.
Compass's multidisciplinary treatment team consists of 50 Psychiatrists and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, and 450 master-level clinicians. Areas of focus include Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, Trauma, PTSD, Mental Health, Pain, and Illness, Child Dysregulation, Substance Use, and School Avoidance. Compass treats patients ages 5 through adulthood in an age-appropriate setting within child, adolescent, young adult, and adult programs. Certainly:
